At The Sophia Way, we envision a community where every woman has a place to call home.
Many have deep emotional issues from trauma or an abusive relationship. Many are unable to work due to a physical disability.
Our shelters – Helen’s Place, Sophia’s Place, and Day Center – offer women a warm, safe space to rest, heal and rebuild their lives. Caring staff and case managers focus on their overall well-being – physical, mental, and financial.
They use the guiding principles of trauma-informed care to build a compassionate relationship with each woman. The focus is on “What may have happened to her?” instead of “What is wrong with her?” This approach reduces further trauma and re-traumatization, emphasizes healing and encourages them to develop stronger coping skills. We believe this approach makes all the difference in women having a better quality of living.
